Why hearing matters

Did you know?

  • Hearing loss affects an estimated 1,000,000 New Zealanders.1
  • Worldwide, nearly 1 in 4 people over 60 are affected by disabling hearing loss.2
  • Hearing loss can be a risk factor for developing dementia but studies show that treating hearing loss can help prevent or slow down age-related cognitive decline and dementia.3
  • Globally, more than 1 billion people aged 12-35 are at risk of noise-related hearing loss.2
  • It's estimated that by 2050, nearly 30% of the world population will have some degree of hearing loss, and at least 700 million people will require rehabilitation.4

Hearing loss is more common than you might think, but the good news is that hearing aids can make a real difference.

Think you might have hearing loss?

Ask yourself these questions:

  • I ask people to repeat themselves, even when it’s quiet?
  • I have difficulty hearing when there is a lot of background noise?
  • I get stressed from straining to understand what people are saying?
  • I need the TV up louder?
  • I need to lean in when I am talking to somebody?
  • I have a family history of hearing loss?

If you answered “yes” to two or more, it might be time for a hearing check.

What to expect during your free hearing check

  • Quick & easy: Your hearing specialist will guide you through a simple hearing check that takes just 20 minutes. In a quiet space, you’ll listen to different tones at various volumes and indicate what you can hear. This helps us assess your hearing ability and identify any potential changes.
  • Personalised advice: Once the free hearing check is complete, we’ll explain your results in clear, simple terms. If your hearing is within the normal range, that’s great! If we detect any hearing loss, we’ll discuss your options and next steps.
  • No pressure, just support: Our goal is to help you understand your hearing health—there’s no obligation or pressure to take further action. If needed, we can recommend a full diagnostic assessment or personalised solutions to improve your hearing.
