ACC Funding

If you have worked in an environment where you have been exposed to loud levels of noise for an extended period of time, you may be eligible to apply for ACC cover. If your claim is approved, ACC may contribute funding towards your hearing aids. ACC can also cover hearing loss that is caused by a traumatic event (e.g. head injury), or is due to a treatment injury. We are a Registered ACC Supplier, and are here to help get you started. We will keep regular contact with you throughout the application process and answer any questions you may have.

What help is available from ACC?

If you are eligible, ACC may contribute towards the costs involved in purchasing, maintaining and repairing your hearing aids. They can also cover the cost of your hearing aid batteries and deliver them to your home. Your hearing aid needs can be reviewed at intervals of at least 6 years and ACC may provide funding towards replacement hearing aids if you need new ones.

ACC funding is not ‘every 6 years’, the legislation sets out that it is ‘intervals of at least 6 years’ – this distinction is important, as ACC expects that if a hearing aid is still meeting client need at six-years, that the client retain those hearing aids, and replacement only occurs once needed.

How much funding is available to me?

ACC’s level of funding depends on how much of your hearing loss is caused by a covered injury, and how much is due to other factors, such as your age or hobbies. Following a full audiology assessment and claim lodgement, ACC uses this information to determine if you have a covered hearing loss injury claim. How much funding ACC will contribute towards your hearing aid(s) is determined by the proportion of your covered injury-related loss.

[Prices are here - as per the ACC branding guidelines, suppliers must clearly represent costs and contributions from ACC for treatments and services. An accurate representation of ACC funding would be to clarify that ACC funds a fitting fee and also has a separate hearing aid contribution. We also note that for Bands 1-3, DSS (MSD) funding makes up a portion over and above the ACC funding noted above, which creates the total combined maximum funding total (as can be seen in the hearing loss services document linked above)].

How do I apply?

The first step is to book a hearing test at your local Bay Audiology clinic. After getting tested, if your audiologist finds you may be eligible for ACC cover, they will submit a claim to ACC. Included in the request will be information about your work and medical history and ACC may also contact your previous employer(s).

What will it cost me?

If your ACC claim is approved, Bay Audiology have hearing aid options that do not require a surcharge, regardless of the level of funding available to you. If your maximum level of ACC funding doesn’t fully cover the cost of your preferred hearing solution, you can choose to pay the difference yourself. Your audiologist will help you understand which solution is right for you.

How much funding is available to me?

The funding available to you depends on how much of your hearing loss is injury-related, and how much is due to other factors, such as your age or hobbies. ACC uses the hearing test and completed forms to determine how much of your hearing loss is related to an injury and the maximum funding they can contribute towards your hearing aid(s). ACC will determine if an ENT assessment is needed.
